An incredible journey for adventurists, naturalists, photographers, or just travelers wanting an exploration of one of the native birds of Peru. On this tour you will experience the Apurimac canyon where you will observe the great Andean condors (Vultur gryphus). During this adventure you will see the condors soaring in all their splendor while enjoying amazing Andean scenery.

The condor in this part of the country, is the largest flying land bird. They have a wing span of around 3 meters and a body weight of 15 kg approximately. They can fly higher than 8,000 meters, so high they get lost to your sight.

In Andean cosmology, the condor is the messenger of the gods who also transports the souls of the departed into the spirit realms. The Apus or tutelary spirits may also appear to human beings in the form of a condor. To come in contact with this powerful animal is a deeply transformative experience that may impact your soul.

DAY 1

Cusco City – Limatambo – Chonta Village (BL, D)

Enjoy seeing the majestic and largest flying bird in the world!

We begin with pick-up from the lobby of your hotel in Cusco at 8.30 am, where we will transfer to Limatambo, crossing the highlands of Anta. You will descend into the valley of Limatambo, after traversing the overpass of Willque. Here, you will enjoy amazing views of Salkantay mountain, the second highest and one of the most beautiful in the region (6,272m).

Close to the city of Limatambo, you will take a dirt road up finally arriving at Chonta. Along this section, you will get the opportunity to observe local birds while admiring the incredible scenery as you reach the canyon so please have your cameras ready for this part of the tour. Upon your arrival, you will walk downhill for a short period towards the main viewpoint where you will enjoy a packed box lunch. You will remain here for around 2 hours observing the wilderness and admiring the condors as they fly high over the Andes. You will then return to Chonta, transferring into the Andean Spirit Lodge where you can relax and enjoy the lodge´s premises.

You may enjoy the fire in the lounge area after a delicious vegetarian dinner.

DAY 2

Limatambo – Cusco City (B, BL)

Delight with the beauty of the snow-capped Humantay mountain!

We recommend that you get up early to enjoy the amazing views of the snow-capped mountain Humantay. Mornings are not to be missed here, immersed in nature, including the morning activities, walks around nearby trails, bird watching, Yoga, and Meditation classes (are all optional).

After a delicious breakfast, you will return to Cusco. Along the way, you will visit the mystic temple of Killarumiyoq where you will enjoy a final packed box lunch.

Amazing trip of a lifetime in Peru carefully curated by Auri Peri Travel Oustanding experience with Lizbeth at Auri Peri Travel. It truly was a carefully curated family trip of a lifetime and one that I would highly recommend. We stayed in Belmond hotels throughout Peru and they were amazing. Highly highly recommend staying at the Belmond at the top of Machu Picchu. After hiking 16km to the summit, this hotel was a welcome refuge and allowed us to break up the hike and the tour around Machu Picchu into 2 days. It is a very small hotel so book early. The only part of the trip I would not recommend was the last 3 nights we spent on the "Pure Amazon" boat. It was not worth the lengthy travel to and from and also was not a good financial value. There was nothing much to see. The boat is beautiful and we met another family that made the time onboard fun but other than that not something I would recommend.
